Dink has planted a seed of doubt in Ender's mind. Dink tells Ender that there is no threat from the buggers and that the videos are fake and are from the first invasion. Ender believed Dink and every now and then, a root was growing which would mean that Ender is growing. It made him wise because it made him listen more carefully to what people meant instead of what they said. This means that whenever people would state something that is going on with their army in phrase nobody can explain, Ender would listen very carefully and think in his head what the commander or whoever is talking means or is trying to say. "Believed, but the seed of doubt was there, and it stayed and every now and then sent out a little root. It changed everything, to have that seed growing. It made Ender listen more carefully to what people meant, instead of what they said. It made him wise." -Pg 111

This statement has a lot of meanings to it especially relating to Chapter 7 of Ender's Game. During this chapter, Ender is assigned an army called Salamander and his leader is Bonzo Madrid. Bonzo dislikes Ender and thinks that he is not ready for battle yet, so he tells Ender to not move and don't do anything during each battle. "The enemy's gate is down," means that when they are in the battle room in battle school, Ender has a special tactic and that is to re-orient all soldiers to have a common sense of direction in a room that contains no gravity. This also means that while they are in the corridor in battle room, the enemy gate is directly in front of their gate. They have to drop in on the enemy which simulates and attack on a planet in space. Clearly, this statement is important throughout the novel and also important in each game Ender plays with his army.
